2. Extensive SmartDontics Smile Analysis
Before we can provide you with a full treatment plan and associated costs confirmation, we complete a thorough SmartDontics Smile Analysis.
What does this entail?
We use the best technology available to look at not only your teeth but the overall picture of your dental health so we can make sure that your treatment plan is both suitable and comprehensive. We understand that orthodontic treatment can be a big commitment, so we want to get it right.
- iCAT FLX Machine – for accurate 3D data:
Using the iCAT FLX technology means we have accurate 3D information on data for TMJ treatment, diagnosis of sleep apnoea and comprehensive images of your face and jaw not just your teeth. An additional benefit of this type of scan is that it can highlight any airway issues. If you find that you might snore at night or have some trouble breathing, then correctly aligning your smile with orthodontics can help with these issues too.
- A CBCT Scan is generated – with full reporting:
This allows us to look all the way around each tooth, inside and outside including bone levels. This can highlight any issues that we might have when we move the position of each tooth. To our knowledge no other orthodontist in the UK completes this process but we do it to make sure that we fully understand each tooth, your dental health and your smile limitations. Our technology means that we are able to carry out a more detailed analysis of your teeth and surrounding soft tissues with a lower dosage in a safe way.
- iTero Scan – with predictive results:
Using cutting edge iTero scanning technology we can diagnose and plan treatments with increased accuracy. This provides a better experience for you. No messy impressions and long waiting times. The iTero Scanner uses a small handheld wand to take thousands of images of your smile in a matter of seconds. With this digital model, Dr Darsh can show you what your smile will look like when treatment is complete and available options.
Based on the information we obtain from this thorough SmartDontics Smile Analysis Dr Darsh will then prepare your comprehensive treatment plan.
Please note that whilst there is a fee for completing the SmartDontics Smile Analysis, that payment is deducted from the overall cost of your treatment if you decide to proceed.
3. Agree treatment plan + Finance Options
Each patient’s smile is like a fingerprint. It is totally unique. Which is why Dr Darsh Patel may use a combination of treatments in his recommendations for you.
Using the state-of-the-art technology and the detailed reporting available from the SmartDontics Smile Analysis he will personally prepare a tailored, comprehensive treatment plan that clearly outlines the risks and benefits.
If we are all happy after you have read through the treatment plan, fully understood your options and agreed a payment plan then we will complete the consent process. We have finance options available which can help spread the cost of treatment if required. Our team are always on hand to talk through the treatment plan and any questions that you may have.
You’re ready to go!
It’s back to us to do the work behind the scenes on your new orthodontic treatment for that straight smile for life! We will get in touch shortly to arrange your bond-up appointment when your braces are ready.
4. Brace fitting + Monitoring
The big day has arrived! It’s time to start treatment!
Depending on the treatment option you have decided to go with this might be a little different. You will either be collecting your first set of removable aligners, or you will be having your fixed braces fitted.
Regardless of treatment the process is the same and Dr Darsh Patel, even though you may not meet him today, is with you every step of the way with the Dental Mind App and Scanner box will be provided.
How does Dental Mind work?
- First, we will ask you to download the Digital Monitoring app to your iOS or Android smartphone.
- Next, we will show you how to follow the instructions in the app to take regular photos of your smile for Dr Darsh to monitor your treatment.
- Then, Dr Darsh will be making regular checks to make sure your progress matches up with your treatment plan.
The best thing about using Dental Mind is that if everything is progressing as planned, we won’t need to schedule unnecessary appointments for you at the practice. You can continue your treatment from wherever you are! Meaning no lost time at work or school.
Through the dental Mind app, you will also receive messages about your treatment. This will include when to change aligners or when to book an appointment to come into the practice, this may be for an adjustment, a new scan for more aligners or for a hygiene appointment.
Depending on the type of treatment that you have we may also supply you with an accelerating treatment device (VPRO+).
What is the VPRO+?
The VPro+ is a clinically proven way to speed up orthodontic treatment which uses high frequency vibrations. The hands-free device encourages your teeth and jaw to move into proper alignment. The VPro+ is easy and comfortable to use. You simply bite down gently on the device while wearing your aligners. There is no need to bite or clench any harder than as needed to support the device. The VPro+ will slowly ramp up to full vibration and will automatically shut off after just 5 minutes. Easy!

Still have questions, that's ok.
Here are some common questions we are asked that might help but our team are always on hand if you want to call us on 020 8399 6333.
What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that focuses specifically on correcting and straightening the position of your teeth and jaws. This is done through the use of orthodontic appliances such as braces and aligners.
What is the difference between an orthodontist & a dentist?
An orthodontist is a qualified dentist who has undergone a further two to three years of specialist training in orthodontics.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes we do. We offer a low-deposit, in-house plan spread out over a period of 12 months. If you wish to spread the payments even further, we deal with Medenta finance.
How long will my treatment take?
Each patient is unique, so we won’t know your exact treatment time until we assess your smile at your free consultation. On average, treatment varies between 12-18 months.
Do I still need to visit my dentist and hygienist?
Yes you do. It is very important to be dentally fit before we carry out your orthodontic treatment. You should still see your dentist every 6 months during treatment, and we will be in communication with your dentist throughout your treatment process to ensure the health of your teeth.
Can I have a copy of my x-ray?
Yes you can, but there may be a nominal fee. We are always happy to pass a copy of your x-ray to your dentist.
Can I have Invisalign® clear aligners?
We treat many patients with Invisalign® clear aligners. So many, in fact, that we have Diamond Invisalign® Provider status. This industry-awarded recognition reflects our experience with these virtually invisible aligners.
If you are not suitable for Invisalign® treatment, we offer various other cosmetic and invisible braces so you can achieve the straight teeth you're after.
Do you use Dental Monitoring?
Yes we do! We are able to track the progress of your treatment from selfies you upload to the Dental Monitoring app on your smartphone. This means fewer check-ups and greater flexibility for your treatment.
Does it hurt to have braces fitted?
No. You may have some mild discomfort for a few days after your braces have been fitted. This is simply because the teeth are starting to move. Over-the-counter pain relief, such as Panadol, will help with this.
We will also provide you with some wax to place over any brackets that might irritate your cheeks until you are accustomed to them.
Is the consultation & treatment carried out by a Specialist Orthodontist?
Yes. Dr Darsh Patel is registered on the General Dental Council (GDC) list of Specialist Orthodontists. He is trained to the highest level in facial orthodontics, which means his treatments go beyond just straight teeth and has won many awards.
Here at Invisibrace, we work together with a team approach which is very beneficial to our patients, enabling more convenient appointments. All treatment is prescribed and overseen by Dr Patel.
Will my speech be affected by braces?
It is very rare for Damon® braces to affect your speech. If you opt for lingual (behind the teeth) braces, you may lisp slightly until you become accustomed to them.
Am I too old for braces?
You are never too old for braces. In fact, we offer many cosmetic options that are more appealing to our adult patients. If you have overcrowding issues, spaces between your teeth, or are not happy with your jawline or bite, we can work together to address your needs.
Dr Patel specialises in facial orthodontics that go beyond just straightening your teeth. He can use his expertise to help you achieve your very best facial appearance and help delay the ageing process.
Do you have Saturday appointments?
Yes, we offer appointments on 2-3 Saturdays per month. We also offer late evening appointments on Mondays to help work around your schedule.
What age should my child see an orthodontist?
On average, it is best for children to visit an orthodontist between the ages of seven and eight. They may not need treatment at this age, but we can monitor the growth of their smile to prevent issues as they grow. We are very happy to see your child before this time if you have a specific worry.
My child is at boarding school, is that a problem?
Not at all. We offer late evening and Saturday appointments and, with careful planning, appointments can be scheduled during school holidays.
How do I clean my teeth with fixed braces?
We will provide you with a complimentary oral hygiene pack and full instructions on how to clean your teeth properly while wearing braces. It will take you a little longer than normal to clean your teeth, but you will soon get into a routine.
It is very important to take great care when cleaning, especially when wearing fixed braces, as food can get stuck in the appliance more easily.
What happens if a bracket comes off?
If a bracket comes off or detaches from your tooth, please call us for advice on whether an earlier appointment is needed. If the bracket has come off the wire, please look after it and bring it along to the appointment with you.
What will happen if I don’t wear my retainer?
If you don’t wear your retainer, your teeth could move back to their original position. This is why it is very important to wear your retainer as advised. We actually say that retention is the most important part of your overall treatment.
What are bite turbos, bite blocks, and blue mountains?
These are temporary glass Ionomer cement build ups that can be blue or white. We place them behind your top front teeth or on the biting surface of your back teeth. They can be used for opening the bite or stopping your teeth from knocking into your lower brackets. They wear down gradually and can be removed at any time.
